The Palm Tree Type is 7!
The Palm Tree Type is 7!
Seven years in, The Palm Tree Type has never felt more rooted, and I have never felt more grounded in my work.
When I established this business seven years ago, it was both an act of defiance and faith. I wanted to carve out my own portfolio; work with clients who mattered to me; spend more time in the work, less time in meeting rooms; and challenge myself to grow in new ways.
While The Palm Tree Type was never going to be some “side hustle” or “gig,” I could’ve never truly imagined just how all-consuming, fulfilling, engaging, nurturing and oh-so-very challenging it would turn out to be. I have grown immeasurably, become more disciplined and discerning, asserted my professional acumen, trusted my instincts and remained insatiably curious. I have learned that success is often quieter than failure and that the bar I set for myself is the only one that ultimately matters. I have never been a fiercer protector of my time nor a more faithful believer that relationships are currency.
In the past seven years, I have worked with dozens of clients near and far. The work has spanned strategic communications – from brand story development to messaging refinement and media outreach to crisis management and every “PR” tactic in between. I have also been my own COO, CFO, Producer and Executive Assistant – have learned more about accounting, tax laws and reporting than I care to. Each experience, task, headache and mistake has been worthwhile.
I have helped launch new developments and businesses, crafted brands’ stories, generated millions of dollars in media coverage, refined narratives for small businesses, informed communications strategies alongside global brands, served as an extension of award-winning teams and partnered with amazing agencies. I have collaborated with fellow creatives, supported local businesses, lent my time to efforts I believe in and nurtured longstanding relationships – each collaborator and experience teaching me something new. I’ve even started a journaling workshop, an initiative that also keeps me accountable to my writing practice.
Along the way, in the face of unimaginable personal circumstances, The Palm Tree Type not only endured but prevailed. With a hard-earned new perspective, I emerged stronger in my conviction to not only work with good brands, but to do good and be well.
A retrospective on The Palm Tree Type would look a lot like: writing, pitching, strategizing, planning, project management, copyediting, media monitoring, list gathering, tracking and reporting. In the midst of the inescapable minutia, the essential could easily be missed: crafting stories that resonate and remain resilient.
Resonance, resilience, resourcefulness… may these remain plentiful in the years to come.
I am deeply proud of and grateful for what I have been able to accomplish, none of which would have been possible without the love and encouragement lent by my family and friends. And, of course, The Palm Tree Type wouldn’t exist without those who have trusted and supported this business over the past seven years. Your partnership has kept me engaged, enriched and enamored with what I do.
THANK YOU!
